True Blood is definitely an awful lot like Twilight. It would appear that Stephenie Meyer took several concepts from the book series that True Blood is based on and used them as the foundations of her book. That would mean that Twilight did not originate from a dream, as her blog states. However, I don’t know if that counts as plaigarism, so it’s possible that the author may or may not sue. It should be interesting, however.
actually since the books TrueBlood was based on were published 3 years before twilight its actually the other way around and if you read a lot of supernatural books you’ll find a lot of things in common with the stories so its not a huge stretch to find similarities between two supernatural romances but personally i like the show so maybe if you try to look past that you may enjoy the series

I did not read the series but my Wife and I love True blood.
you have to understand that most things that come out are copes if something else, weather it is intentional or not. most ideas are given to people who take it directly or are influenced by it.

Yeah, well, since the novels that True Blood is based on were written before Twilight was written, it seems to me that it’s the other way around – Twilight is so much like True Blood…except True Blood is better written, better acted…and there aren’t any sparkling vampires! LOL I’m not saying Twilight was bad, I actually enjoyed it somewhat, but to me True Blood is 100 times better than Twilight.
As others have said am thinking that it was Stephenie Meyer who took some ideas from True Blood, and Twilight looks a lot like The Vampire Diaries novels as well (which will soon be made into a TV series). When I read the first few chapters of The Vampire Diaries, it was like I was reading Twilight.
The Vampire Diaries came out in 1991.
True Blood novels (real name The Southern vampire mysteries) came out in 2001.
Twilight novels came out in 2005.
So you can do the Maths yourself.
But you can’t seriously state that Twilight is better than True Blood. Books and even the series where there is acting is far superior than Twilight. I’m watching True Blood and enjoying it as it deals for far more mature audiences than Twilight does.
Well it sounds like it. I personally don’t see what the big deal is with True Blood, I did not like what I saw of it!! One episode did not capture my interest at all. I still think Moonlight was the best vamp show.
The Southern Vampire Mysteries were out before Twilight.
I don’t find them the same story or even the same characters.
Sookie wile she has her moments of being pushed around will stand up for herself.
Bill actually has a range of emotion and dept to his character.
The series is for adults not tweens so there is sex, drugs, and political issues that the target audience of Twilight would have difficulty understanding.
I really like how Allen Ball is making parallels between vampire rights and the rights of homosexuals in the US.
I love how the humans are that caught up with consuming things the same way the vampires are. In some ways the humans are way worse than the vampires.
I find True Blood realistic in a fantasy world. If Vampires did exist and they ” came out of the coffin” The world we live in would probably be more like True Blood than Twilight.
And the very cool thing about True Blood. Charlaine Harris does a lot of shout outs to the Queen of vampire Anne Rice.
Ok Twilight books. I couldn’t put them down. Didn’t care so much for the movie, poorly made. I wasn’t really into True Blood at first but I kept watching until it sucked me in! (Pun totally intended!) As the Twilight saga is geared toward tweens, True Blood is geared toward adult. It has nudity, horror and politics. The story lines are great. I must admit I was shocked with the plot line that the first season and would have never guessed the identity of the killer. (for those of you reading that have not seen this show I will spare you the spoiler!) I cannot wait until The Vampire Diaries begin. It looks interesting. I love what Allan Ball does with his series. I totally LOVED Six Feet Under. It dealt with death and the life of a mortician seen through the eyes of an undertaker and it was very accurate as well. The show also allowed you to get involved with the main character and the featured decadent for that episode. It isn’t weird that these stories are similar, this is what is selling. This is what is interesting people. The guy in the show is named Bill Compton. The guy who portrays that character is Stephen Moyer. Anyhow they are both great stories. And if you haven’t caught Six Feet Under I suggest you watch it. It is a great show created by a talented man!

There are similarities, but True Blood books were made way before Twilight. Stephanie Meyers, thought she says otherwise, seems like she got all her ideas from other books and movies, like this show and Interview with a vampire, which everyone conveniently forgets. Her books are anything but original, the only original thing about them is that the writing is semi-atrocious.
